Iron Jawed Angels
I watched Iron Jawed Angels last night to get ready for our showing of it tomorrow night. Wow. It's awesome.
I don't think I've ever seen a Hilary Swank movie before. I know, that's just plain pathetic. But I haven't. She's great. I like that she's not typical looking. Now I really want to see Million Dollar Baby.
The thing I liked about this movie was the collection of really interesting characters. All of the important female characters (and there were several) had developed personalities. I cared for all of them and thought it was fun and inspiring to watch their relationships.
Iron Jawed Angels is about Alice Paul (Swank), an early 1900's suffragist who was considered extreme for her insistance upon a constitutional ammendment as opposed to state-by-state suffrage battles. She and her friend Lucy (Frances O'Connor) lead a diverse group of women for several years in battles against the government, President Wilson, and suffragists with different ideas of how things should be done.
If you're at Taylor and have the chance to come, you should stop by and see this movie tomorrow night at 8:30 in Metcalf. If not, at least rent it. It's inspiring and eye-opening and the music is awesome.
