Chalupa's Movies: Amelie

July 28, 2004

Amelie

Brad 'Hoser' Moser....whatever you call him came over tonight and we watched Amelie.  I really enjoy this movie but don't always recommend it to everybody because there's some content in it that some people can't get past.  It's like staring at the finger while ignoring what it's pointing at.  Some people don't like this 'kind' of movie cause it has subtitles.  I kind of like subtitles sometimes myself.  Even in movies without subtitles I have to watch it a couple times to really catch the dialog and what's going on in the background.  I really love Audrey Tautou in this film.  Her performance is amazing and most of it is just in the expressions she makes.  I of course have no idea what she's like in person, but her character just seems so cool in this movie; somebody I could really get along with - kinda like how we feel about Zach Braff right Liz? Well the jist of this movie is a young woman does a good deed for somebody, likes how she feels afterwards and continues trying to help people out in the world.  At the end of the movie you get to see how her life really affected peoples' lives.  It's definately a feel-good movie and a subtle reminder to watch how we live our lives because you never know how you're affecting somebody.

Haven't seen Happenstance or He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not, but I have seen Dirty Pretty Things which isn't dirty like it sounds. My newfound movie connoisseur neighbor, Michael, who just so happened to move out today along with Mahan....sniff.

I just love HE LOVES ME, HE LOVES ME NOT. I didn't like it for the first thirty minutes or so, but then all of the sudden it got really good. It's one of my favorite movies of last semester.

I love how beautiful everything is at the end of AMELIE. It's that way for most of the movie, but particularly at the end, when everything is working out the way it is supposed to. The Nino/Amelie scene in her apartment is one of the most romantic things ever put on film, I think.

Let's have a party and invite Audrey Tautou and Zach Braff, okay?

It's like staring at the finger while ignoring what it's pointing at.That's a great way to explain it. I've never heard that phrase before, but it fits like a glove.

I saw "Dirty Pretty Things" a couple of weeks ago, too. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't anything I would call great. But it was interesting to see Ms. Tautou in a different role...

I pretty much had the same feelings you had Soulman. Wasn't a barn-burner, but cool to see Tautou in another role.
